Since i wasn’t impressed by any texture improvement up till now, i decided to start my own texture overhaul for the terrain, just like i did with Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, i love the entire look of the game, Bethesda really did a good job on most of the textures, except for the terrain, most of it looks bland and washed out, even though they decided in all their wisdom to make the textures 2048px.
Also, most of the other texturemods use the old DXT1 or DXT 5 compression for normal maps and no specular maps at all, this means the game will use the default specular map from the BSA file, which is wrong, cause the textures from the BSA file are different.
So i made entirely new textures, diffuse textures are in DXT5 format and i used alpha’s where the original game textures also used alpha’s, if a original gametexture uses a white alpha i removed it, so the textures will also bring a slight improvement in VRam usage, although not very much, but still.
I compressed the normal maps in ATI’s 3Dc format, which is vastly superior to DXT1 and DXT5, it literally has no artifacts when you look at them up close, aside from the normal being very deep at some textures, i chose for some deep normals at some textures otherwise you get a flat look often.
Specular/gloss maps are also in 3Dc format like the textures from the BSA file, i chose for dark specular and dark gloss to make sure the specular isn’t overdone and the ground does not shine too much, after all, dirt usually doesn’t shine, also chose dark gloss cause ground doesn’t reflect sharp like metal does.

This is a WIP, i will be adding new textures on a daily base from now on, probably 3 to 4 a day, or maybe 8 in two days, depending on the progress i make. When the terrain is entirely done, i expect it to be done in a week, i will move on to the grass and trees.
There are currently 11 textures done in two days, so this is going to be the pace i’m working in, the entire ground textures folder has roughly 60 textures in it, so you can do the math.

To install these textures, unpack the zipped file and copy the TEXTURES directory (make sure it’s not textures/textures/ textures !!) into your fallout installdirectory INSIDE the DATA folder !!.
Usually in your “”steam/steamapps/common/fallout4/ folder.

Also make sure you have your “Fallout.ini” file modified by changing the line “sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS”into “sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS, TEXTURES” (that is if you only play with modded textures ofcourse), you can find the “Fallout.ini” file in your My”Documents/My Games/ Fallout 4/”folder.
Have fun and enjoy the game with upgraded terrain textures.
Must Try It
so I have an issue to where I am trying to edit the worldspace of the lake next to the sunshine tiding co-op where I want to add a road leading down to the lake. I am able to soften the vertices from the road to the lake easily to make it a smooth path. After that when I go to add a texture of LDirtGravel01 to make the road it works on the 1st quadrant, but it will not paint over any of the other 4 parts of the major quadrant. I can remove all the textures from the 4th quadrant easily, but I can only add a few specific textures to it. I have no idea whats going on. any help would be great.

Spread green all around in Fallout 4 with the landscaping gun.
Fallout 4‘s latest mod will bring a smile to the faces of landscaping enthusiasts everywhere who like to improve the look of their environments by carefully placing grass and flowers everywhere.
Simply called The Beautifier (via PCGamer), the mod is created by modder GenghisKhanX and basically turns the game’s shotgun into a landscaping tool. The Beautifier shotgun can be crafted at any chem station.

GenghisKhanX also released another mode very recently. In that mod, called Trash Collection, you can turn any pile of junk into materials by approaching it. On top of keeping the streets clean, the mod helps with scrapping, very useful for those constantly using the workstation to create new items.
Fallout modder Hein84 makes some of Fallout 4's most popular texture mods, including Vivid Landscapes, which made it onto Chris's list of best mods for the game (going over that list just makes me want to reinstall). He has just released a compilation of all his work, bringing improvements in trees, landscapes, buildings, roads, and bridges into one place, and if you want to make Bethesda's RPG prettier then it's well worth a look. Best of all, you can scale it up and down based on the power of your rig.
Vivid Fallout—All in One replaces lots of the default visuals with more realistic, weathered textures (Hein84 claims they are actually less demanding on your graphics card than the originals) and sharpens some of the vanilla textures to make them look better. The overall result is a marked improvement. Take a look at the before and after shot below to see for yourself.
You can download 1K, 2K or 4K versions of Vivid Fallout—All in One to match the power of your PC. If you're not sure, you might want to opt for the 'Best Choice' version instead, which balances texture quality with steady performance, or the 'Best Performance' version if your PC struggles with that.
You can find all of the files on the mod's Nexus page. Make sure you uninstall any of Hein84's existing mods before you try this one out, otherwise it won't work.
Chinese stealth armor fallout 4 mod location. Even on PC, Fallout 4's graphics aren't quite amazing. The Commonwealth isn't going to put an NVIDIA GTX 980Ti through its paces, and users with higher-end rigs have faced disappointment with the game's underwhelming visuals. With the addition of mods, all of that can be turned around.
A new mod called Vivid Fallout aims to inject a vivacious life to Fallout 4's environs. The game surely is much more colorful than Fallout 3, but a good portion of its flora and fauna remain undefined and rather beleaguered, and that's exactly what this mod overhauls.
As you can see in the side-by-side comparison, the mod's visuals are quite striking and much more pronounced in some instances, but sometimes you can't really notice. If you want to get the total package, this particular mod goes hand-in-hand with the new Realistic Lights add-on. The lighting mod overhauls the way light and shadow are presented in the game to add in a nice sense of realism, but it can be admittedly hard to see in metropolitan areas with skyscrapers.
If you're looking to start seriously overhauling your Fallout 4 PC experience, be sure to drop on over to the Fallout 4 Nexus and install the most popular mods. This top list includes enhanced blood spatters, dialogue overhauls, craftable ammo, enhanced settlements (highly recommended!), various cosmetic upgrades, and an ambitious texture overhaul mod. We'll likely see thousands more mods release in the coming months, especially when Bethesda makes the tools widely available.
